Our Foundation Story

Honoring a legacy through compassion, awareness, and community action.

The April T. Bocian Foundation was established in 2015 in memory of April Tayler Bocian, a compassionate young woman whose life and loss deeply touched her family, friends, teammates, and community. April struggled privately with depression and mental illness before her death by suicide at age 17. Her family created the foundation so her story could foster understanding, encourage earlier conversations, and help prevent similar tragedies. From its roots in Grove City and connections across the greater Pittsburgh area, the foundation has grown into an active community nonprofit. Through its annual Golf Outing, volunteer participation, sponsorships, the EmpowHer Retreat connection, and partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, it brings people together around hope, support, and lasting mental health awareness.
