Our Foundation Team

A compassionate community united by April’s enduring legacy.

The April T. Bocian Foundation was established in 2015 to honor the life of April Tayler Bocian and transform profound loss into purposeful advocacy. Remembered for her warmth, empathy, and love of basketball, April struggled privately with depression and mental illness before her death by suicide in 2015. Her family and supporters created the foundation so that her story could encourage understanding, conversation, and prevention. Based in Grove City, the foundation brings together neighbors, families, volunteers, donors, and local businesses around mental health awareness. Through its annual Golf Outing, connections with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and support for programs such as EmpowHer Retreat, the foundation continues serving the greater Pittsburgh region with compassion, remembrance, and hope.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the three C's in suicide prevention?

The “three C’s” can be taught differently by different organizations, but a useful approach is to Care, Connect, and Continue. Show genuine care by listening without judgment; connect the person with immediate support, such as a trusted adult, mental health professional, or 988; and continue checking in after the immediate conversation. If there is immediate danger, call 911 or emergency services.
