Honoring April’s legacy through compassionate community action.
The April T. Bocian Foundation was established in 2015 to honor the life and memory of April Tayler Bocian, a compassionate young woman born at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After April’s death by suicide shortly after her seventeenth birthday, her loved ones created a foundation rooted in the belief that open conversation, education, and community support can help save lives. Today, the organization raises awareness of mental health, depression, and suicide prevention through outreach, its annual Golf Outing, volunteer involvement, and relationships with organizations including AFSP and EmpowHer Retreat. From Pittsburgh to Grove City and beyond, the foundation seeks to turn loss into connection and encourage people to seek support without shame.
Pittsburgh offers bereavement support through hospitals, hospices, faith communities, mental-health providers, and organizations focused on specific types of loss. Groups may be general, focused on suicide loss, or designed for parents, young adults, or caregivers. The April T. Bocian Foundation provides mental-health and suicide-prevention resource connections and can help you begin identifying supportive options that fit your circumstances.
